Erik Saras is a producer, writer, director, and musician living and working in the New York City tri-state area.
Beginning his career as a trombonist and composer/arranger, he collaborated with musicians and actors to create performance works featuring narration, dancers, and singers accompanied by live music ensembles.
Recently, Erik has pivoted away from performing trombone professionally and transitioned into the much more stable career of screenwriting. He is the co-creator, writer, director, and music producer of the award winning sci-fi podcast Marsfall.
This epic story marks his debut project, consisting of 45 episodes across 3 full seasons and 2 miniseries, and Marsfall has already surpassed 2 million downloads. If you like sci-fi, Mars, evil A.I., aliens, and explosions, you’ll love it.
Erik is a founding member of Status Report, the production company behind Marsfall, The Tell-Tale Heart, and more stories to come. In addition to working on his own projects, Erik loves collaborating with other artists.
This past year, Erik worked on the remastering team for The New Jazz Archive, a radio program covering jazz’s wide and wild history. He was also hired as the producer for the second album recorded by Calliope Brass and continues working with them as we get closer to releasing this masterwork collection of brand new compositions by American composers.
Erik has performed with The Orchestra Now at Bard College, NYCA Orchestra, the Manhattan Symphonie, Patriot Brass, and various other ensembles.
He has written music for members of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Boston Symphony Orchestra, Metropolitan Opera, and for a variety of chamber music ensembles, orchestras, the U.S. Air Force Reserve Band, and collegiate wind bands, including the Northwestern University Symphonic Wind Ensemble.
He is also a freelance conductor and clinician leading workshops and lectures.
While not writing stories and experimenting with great music, Erik loves spending time outside with his wife Rika and son Henry, enjoying/studying various forms of media, and lounging around on the couch with his dog Zoe.
